Welcome to The Preheated Oven!

Whether you spend all your free time in the kitchen or have never cracked an egg before, I’m so glad you’re here! No matter what your skill level is if you–like a preheated oven–are ready to start baking, you’ll feel right at home.

Want a perfect chocolate chip cookie recipe? You can find it here. Have no idea how to make your frosting smooth enough to perfectly frost a cake? I’ve got an answer for you here. Not even sure how to line your pan with parchment paper? I got you covered here.

The world is a better place when there are more desserts in it, so the more people in their kitchens baking the better. I’m here to provide delicious recipes as well as baking tips to make sure that everyone can follow them. I’m not promising every recipe will be easy, but I am promising that every recipe will be easy to follow. And anyone can bake anything if they have thorough enough instructions.

How am I so confident about that? Because I had never baked anything from scratch until I was 22.

I loved baking as a kid but I was the queen of boxed brownies and cakes from a Betty Crocker box. When I got my first apartment out of college I was so happy to have a kitchen again after several years of living in a dorm that I threw myself head first into making desserts.

Two things you need to know about me: I love sugar and I love doing research.

I noticed that every new recipe I wanted to follow threw around terms that I didn’t understand. Every time I tried to bake a new dessert it led to a deep dive on baking terms and techniques. As I started baking more and more, people would compliment me on how good a baker I was. But I knew that wasn’t true. I didn’t have any inherent knowledge about how much sugar to use to make a muffin just the right amount of sweet and I didn’t have years in the kitchen with someone showing me the best way to get your cookies to come out perfectly round. I was just willing to put more time into learning a new technique and executing a difficult recipe than other people were.

And I know you can do that, too! I think most people like sugar (almost) as much as I do, but I don’t think that many people like doing research as much as I do. My goal is to give you all the information you need to successfully create a dessert right there in the recipe instructions. I know exactly what needs to be fully laid out for newer bakers because I was a new baker not too long ago.

Already a pro at the technique and just looking for a great new recipe? Awesome! Just click over to the “For Seasoned Bakers” tab within the recipe and you’ll find the abridged version of the instructions to get your dessert on a plate as fast as possible.

No matter where you are in your baking journey, I know you’ll find what you need here. I’m so glad to have you following along, so please keep in touch through Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tok, Pinterest, and my mailing list!
